Nero from Graffitti Artist in Winnipeg was hired to lead 15 students in creting a large 10'x40' mural on the walls of the old Bingo hall, new Youth and family center. The theme, Mother earth and working together.

Portge Friendship Centre, 2014

 

The Portage Friendship Centre asked for a theme related to their first nation culture. A father/daughter team from Graffitti Artists in Winnipeg, came up with the drawing after meeting with the students and brainstorming ideas.Then students projected the image on the boards and drew the outlines. From there they started filling it in. Some students took ownership of certail parts of it, the bear, the bison...others went floated over the piece adding where they saw need.

Shannon Neff, RCMP Media Liason, saw an opportinity to beautify some walls in Portage as well as involve students. She knew that research says that where there are murals generally there is not Graffitti. Involving community in creating the art serves many purposes, teaching skills, giving encouragement, building pride through ownership
