Winston Leathers studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and at the Manitoba Teachers College where he majored in Art Education. During this period, he had the opportunity to study and paint in Mexico and at the University of British Columbia. From 1958-68 Winston taught basic design at the Winnipeg Technical Vocational High School and then joined the staff of Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, where he was appointed full Professor in 19
